Instruments for Kids

For some years now La Sinfonica has been providing music instruments to children

where the need exists but the means do not.

The Barrio Symphony (as La Sinfonica is sometimes referred) meets with the principals and the music teachers of different schools in the city to solicit their recommendations for those students most meritorious for their scholarship,

dedication.

A special feature of this program is that the selected students are not aware that they have qualified for an instrument and at the time of presentation they are

totally and jubilantly surprised. This program is funded by contributions both

financial and the donation of instruments by individuals.

These young people rely on us. We in turn rely on you. We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to invest in the future of our youth and our community, by donating funds to the orchestra that it may continue its important

work.

Multi-generational orchestra

The orchestra is comprised of the finest musicians in the community. This means

that over the more than three decades of the Barrio Symphony since 1974, many of

those who were at one time the young members of this ensemble have returned and

sit as mentors to the newer members in the orchestra.

We are proud to point out that many of our former members have gone on to the

world orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Miami Symphony, orchestras in Israel, Mexico, Germany, Hong Kong, South Africa, and elsewhere world wide.

The orchestra’s purpose is not only to make great music, but to train in orchestral performance. Music helps one to become sentient, alert, curious, and a solution

seeker to the world’s ills. In all, the person we all aspire to be.

Scholarship Program

The Barrio Symphony is initiating its new Scholarship Program focusing

on supporting those students who have achieved a level of education and

proficiency. It is for those students aspiring to go on to higher education whether privately or at an institute of higher learning.

These scholarships will be awarded on merit and need as determined by an

independent scholarship review panel. All contributions are tax deductible.

An investment in these youngsters is one of the most rewarding experiences

one can know.
